The colder months are quickly approaching us and that means it is now time to prepare for winter. Winter is extremely cold which causes our skin to go off balance most of the time. One of the main problems that occur with our skin is it has a tendency to become dry. If you have oily skin you will notice your skin is not as oily and hydrated as it is during the summer months. While if you have dry skin you will notice your skin is extremely dry, and sensitive skin will become red and patchy.

Although, the chilly winter months will take a toll on our skin especially the skin on our face it is important that we change our skin care routine to help out skin adjust to the changes. We believe every season you should adjust and switch your skin care routine. This will help support your skin looking its best all year round. Gel cleansers are great for getting deep inside your pores and removing dirt. However, they are also drying on your skin. Although, they are an excellent option for all skin types. During the winter months, you want to switch over to a cream cleanser.

Cream cleansers are ideal for the winter months because of how hydrating they are to the skin. They add an extra layer of hydration to your skin even while cleansing it. While they will remove all the dirt from inside your pores, they are also a lot gentler on the skin. You also want to minimize your cleansing to two times a day maximum.

6-Exfoliating

We are very well aware of how beneficial exfoliating your skin can be. However, we also know over exfoliating can cause serious harm to our skin as well. During the cold winter months you want to not only exfoliate less but you also want to use a gentle exfoliating scrub. The more gentle it is the better.

You no longer want to exfoliate your skin everyday. You want to minimize that to two times a week the most. Although, exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and rejuvenate your skin during the cold winter months it makes your skin dry which is what you do not want.

5-Add a Face Serum

Face serums are amazing for the skin. They are light and easy for your skin to soak up. In fact, a face serum is soaked into your face 3 times quicker than a moisturizer? The reason behind this is a moisturizer is heavier on the skin while a face serum is lightweight. Under your makeup and before your moisturizer you want to use a face serum.

This will give you better application for your makeup and truly hydrate your skin. It will also contribute to adding an extra layer of protection from the drying winter air.

4-Soothing Toner

We usually use a toner that is filled with some sort of alcohol. For winter you want to use an alcohol free toner as it will help maintain your pores closed and refreshed while being less drying. The key to helping your skin in winter is making sure it does not become dry. Hydrated skin is healthy looking skin while dry skin is not so much.

If you want to find a good toner use a toner that contains cucumber extract. This kind of toner will have the least drying effect on your skin.  It will also refresh your skin and help shrink your pores with little to no drying.

3-Night Cream Is a Must

The benefits of using a night cream are endless, especially if you want to maintain your skin looks fresh and wrinkle free for as long as you possibly can. During the winter months, you want to ensure you include a thick, hydrating night cream into your daily routine. A night cream will enable you to add an extra layer of hydration to your skin right before bed.

It will also allow you to wake up to a more moisturized complexion. You will have a clear smooth canvas for you to use in the morning. When choosing a night cream chose a night cream with essential oils such as coconut oil, almond oil and grapeseed oils. These oils are gentle on the skin while getting deep inside your pores and keeping you hydrated from the inside out.

2-Drink Water

Drinking water is beneficial for your body in more ways than one. And one way to ensure your skin is always looking its very best is to consume lots of water throughout the day. Water helps your body flush out toxins that do your body no good.

At the same time water helps keep you hydrated from within. Which will show on your skin when your skin looks healthy and hydrated. Try to drink between a gallon to a gallon and ½ everyday to notice the benefits immediately.

1-Face Masks

Face masks are an excellent way to add hydration back to your skin especially during the cold winter months. They are another excellent way to soothe your skin and give your skin a break. With so many harmful polluting properties in the air our skin drinks up half of everything that it comes in contact with.

Using a natural face mask is the best way to go as you will know everything that is going into it. Using ingredients that you already have in your refrigerator and/or pantry will allow you to know all the ingredients that are going into your mask. Try the mask below and let us know your thoughts

Ingredients
5-6 Large strawberries
2 tablespoon of honey
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
2 tablespoons of fresh orange juice

What to do
Take your strawberries and mash them
Add 2 tablespoons of honey
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
2 tablespoons of fresh orange juice
Mix it all together

Apply on your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes rinse it off with cool water. You will notice your skin is soft and hydrated. Do this mask once a week or when your skin feels dry to give it a boost of hydration.
